Joins Leading U.S. Organizations in Promoting Value of Healthy Workforce

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, June 7, 2012 – Broadway Bank announced today that it has pledged support for, and will participate in, the fourth annual National Employee Wellness Month. This month-long initiative helps business leaders learn successful strategies around good health practices, and how to engage employees in healthy behavior change while reducing healthcare costs. The announcement was highlighted with the bank’s kick-off and ribbon-cutting ceremony to promote its new one-mile walking path around the main campus.

More than 140 companies across the United States have pledged their support to this important workplace wellness initiative. National Employee Wellness Month is sponsored by Virgin HealthMiles, in partnership with the Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance, the Partnership to Fight Chronic Diseaseand WorldatWork.

“The health and wellness of our employees is a key focus for Broadway Bank and is defined in our Wellness at Work philosophy. Broadway Bank is committed to offering a variety of health and wellness related programs throughout the year. Our new one-mile walking path is one of the ways we encourage our employees to get out and exercise,” said Jim Goudge, chairman and CEO. “In addition to our comprehensive benefit plans, we offer a host of wellness activities, such as: quarterly wellness challenges, health risk assessments, wellness fairs, 5k walks, and we participate in San Antonio get fit initiatives. We also created a Wellness Advisory Council to help identify and promote our wellness activities.”

Out of control healthcare costs are a board level issue for virtually every U.S. organization. Costs continue to rise more than 10% annually, with no end in sight. Employees are feeling it too, paying more out of their pockets for higher premiums. Forward-thinking organizations are taking action to control rising healthcare costs by focusing on prevention as a proven strategy to counter the trend. National Employee Wellness Month highlights the powerful role the workplace can play in helping employees make healthy behavior changes, resulting in a sustainable impact on costly lifestyle-related disease.
